This page is dedicated to instruct you on how to use Rescale Desktops. In order to access the Desktops feature, log in to your Rescale account (Rescale Platform). If you don't have a Rescale account, you can create an account at no charge here: Rescale Signup.

To proceed with setting up a Desktops session, click on the Desktops tab and select + New Custom Desktop.
You can give your session a unique title to locate it easily later. Next, you can select from Windows or Linux, CPU or GPU instances. For this tutorial, we'll be running on Windows CPU. Also, please add the Software (ParaView) and Job (OpenFOAM ParaView Server) to the desktop through the interface (shown below).
Once you've made your selection, you can click "Launch" and it will start the session. This will typically take a few minutes.
In general, these are the required ports for visualization:
RDP: Port 3389 VNC: Port 5900/5901
Once the server has started, you need to click the Connect button which will show a popup (as seen below).
The easiest way to view your desktop is through In-browser Desktops, which can be accessed simply by the click of the Connect using In-Browser Desktop button, as shown below. You are now be able to use the remote desktop straight off your browser.
If you would prefer to use a client to connect with the desktop instead, please follow these instructions:
You need to first click on Generate New Password, followed by Download RDP file.
Once the RDP file is downloaded, double click to open. For GPU-enabled instances, it is recommened that you use NICE DCV Endstation for visualization instead (download). You will be prompted to type in the password (case-sensitive) when launching the visualization through NICE DCV.
Once you are at the Windows user Sign-in page, you will also need to enter your unique password (case-sensitive).
You should now be viewing your remote desktop. The shortcut to the attached Software can be found on your desktop.
If you are looking to launch a basic Linux instance, you will need to set up an ssh tunnel first. Download the relevent script (Windows or Linux), and follow the instructions on the page.
You need to first click on Generate New Password, followed by Download VNC file.
For utilizing GPU-enabled Linux remote desktops, it is recommened that you use NICE DCV Endstation for visualization (download). You will need to enter your unique password (case-sensitive) in DCV Endstation.
